State Senator Dr. Aisha Wahab's Senior Protection Package Signed into Law

Sacramento, CA — State Senator Dr. Aisha Wahab’s (D-Silicon Valley) SB 1354, Protect Seniors At All Costs Act, and SB 1352, Continuing Care Retirement Communities, were signed into law by California Governor Gavin Newsom.

“Seniors deserve to age with dignity and should never be discriminated against for how they pay for medical services or live their lives,” said Dr. Wahab. “It is our job to support and protect seniors; SB 1352 and SB 1354 do that by targeting different aspects of our care systems to eliminate ongoing discrimination that has no place in California.”

SB 1354, Protect Seniors At All Costs Act, codifies regulations to ensure equitable treatment of Medi-Cal residents and protect against payment source discrimination at Skilled Nursing Facilities. SB 1352, Continuing Care Communities, ensures residents of continuing care retirement communities are informed of all their rights upon signing their contracts.

SB 1317, Court Ordered Medications, was also recently signed into law. All three laws will take effect January 1, 2025.
