Dear Neighbors,
As a former foster youth, calling for a state audit of the Alameda County Department of Children and Family Services was rooted in my own lived experience.
The audit's findings were shocking yet undeniable. Along with a Civil Grand Jury report, the State Auditor makes clear that Alameda County is failing, resulting in death and sexual exploitation of children.
Last month, I led a multi-agency taskforce to strengthen accountability to ensure kids get the help they need.
Our first taskforce meeting on January 30th was a strong and productive start, acknowledging the goal is not to replace existing oversight, but to strengthen transparency, coordination, and accountability.
Members of the public are welcome to observe taskforce meetings - which are slated for every other Friday at 3 PM - with the next on this coming Friday, February 13th.
The State Auditor will be presenting its finding. Please join us.
If you would like to attend the next taskforce meeting, please register here.
