Senator Wahab Introduces Resolution on Human Rights in Gaza

“Both Israelis and Palestinians deserve safety, dignity, and a peaceful future — California must stand on the side of humanity,” says Senator Wahab.

Sacramento, CA — State Senator Dr. Aisha Wahab (D–Silicon Valley) introduced Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR) 105, Human Rights: Gaza. SCR 105 is joint authored by Senator Wiener with Assembly Members Elhawary, Haney, and Kalra as principal co-authors.

“The crisis in Gaza is one of the great moral tests of our time,” said Senator Wahab. “As lawmakers, we have a duty to stand for humanity, to speak for the vulnerable, and to oppose indiscriminate violence and collective suffering. I am grateful to the Jewish Caucus for joining in the call to end this devastating conflict. Both Israelis and Palestinians deserve safety, dignity, and the chance at a peaceful future.”

Senator Wahab, in joint partnership with the California Legislative Jewish Caucus, called for an end to the conflict and to prioritize humanitarian aid early during the conflict in 2023. Signatories of this letter, addressed to President Biden and Secretary Blinken, included chairs and co-chairs of the California Legislative Jewish Caucus, California Legislative Native American Caucus, California Legislative Women’s Caucus, California Asian American and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus, California Latino Legislative Caucus, California Legislative Black Caucus, and California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus.

SCR 105 will be presented on the Senate floor for a vote this week.
