Senator Aisha Wahab’s Smile Act Advances to Assembly

Sacramento, CA — SB 980, The Smile Act—authored by California Senator Aisha Wahab (D-Silicon Valley)—expands coverage for dental implant benefits for Medi-Cal recipients, and officially passed the Senate with unanimous bipartisan support, including has 34 co-authors.

“Right now Medi-Cal patients can get their teeth extracted but not replaced. I want everyone to be able to get a dental implant and be confident in their smile and ability to eat,” said Senator Wahab. “This action creates long-term financial savings.”

The Smile Act now heads to the Assembly, and will need to pass its policy committee hearings and Assembly Appropriations before heading to the Assembly Floor.
