Senator Aisha Wahab’s Organized Retail Theft Sunset Removal Bill Signed Into Law

Sacramento, CA — California State Senator Dr. Aisha Wahab’s (D-Silicon Valley) SB 982, Organized Retail Theft Sunset Removal, was signed into law and makes organized retail theft a permanent crime.

“SB 982 is critical public safety policy providing law enforcement agencies the tools they need to keep our communities safe, and ensuring those involved in organized retail theft are appropriately prosecuted,” said Dr. Wahab.

SB 982 is part of the Senate’s Safer California package and Governor Newsom’s Retail Theft package, and becomes law on January 1, 2025.
