Senator Aisha Wahab Secures $2M for City of Fremont

FREMONT, CA —Senator Aisha Wahab (D-Hayward) garnered $2 million in state funding for the City of Fremont to fund multiple projects.

$500,000 is designated for the Navigation Center in the City of Fremont to address homelessness and provide wrap around mental health, housing and substance abuse programs, and $1.5 million is awarded to the Wi-Fi Access Expansion Project to reduce the digital divide and ensure all communities have access to equitable high-speed Wi-Fi internet connection.

“I’m proud to be able to support my district through actual financial allocations from the state, and particularly for issues I have long advocated for,” says Senator Wahab. “I know from my work on the City of Hayward’s Navigation Center that it’s an effective way of supporting unhoused community members from the street into housing, and I’m glad to see the City of Fremont investing in this model.

The pandemic exacerbated the digital divide, and I saw that first-hand in schools across this district. So I’m very excited to be able to secure funding that reduces the digital divide and increases internet access to under resourced communities.”

The Senator is scheduled to present a symbolic check representing these funds to the City of Fremont at the Fremont City Council meeting on Wednesday, October 10th.
