Senator Aisha Wahab Elected as Senate Vice-Chair of AAPI Legislative Caucus

Sacramento, CA — The California Asian American and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus (AAPILC) elected State Senator Dr. Aisha Wahab (D-Silicon Valley) to the role of Senate Vice-Chair and she took office on August 14, 2024.

“As the newly elected Vice Chair, I’m looking forward to increasing representation of all Asian Americans, educating the public on the history and culture of the diverse groups within the AAPI diaspora, as well as collaborating with my colleagues to set a high standard of good governance, transparency, and fiscal responsibility in the Caucus,” said Dr. Wahab.

Dr. Wahab—a former foster youth—is the first and only Afghan-American and Muslim both elected to the Legislature and appointed as Senate Assistant Majority Leader, and the first of her kind in the AAPILC.
