As you may know, March is Women's History Month. In order to honor courageous women who continue to make a positive impact in our community, I am hosting my 2nd Annual Women of the Year Ceremony on Thursday, March 30th at the Berryessa Public Library,
3355 Noble Avenue in San Jose.

The ceremony will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

This year's honorees include:

  • Anu Natarajan, former Fremont Vice-Mayor
  • Hilary Keith, Santa Clara City Librarian
  • Jean Marlowe, President of the River Oaks Neighborhood Association

Sacramento – The supply of accessory dwelling units, a long under used approach to providing affordable workforce housing, would increase across the state under a bill by State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) that is receiving widespread backing from the business community, affordable housing advocates and urban planners.  SB 1069 was approved with bipartisan support this morning in the Senate Governance and Finance Committee, and yesterday in the Transportation and Housing Committee.

Fremont – With the deadline for filing income taxes coming Monday, local families with incomes below $54,000 can receive free income tax preparation assistance at an event co-hosted by State Senator Bob Wieckowski, State Controller Betty Yee and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, April 14 at the Fremont Family Resource Center, Building EFGH, 39155 Liberty Street in Fremont.

SB 1400 prevents minors' exposure and access to tobacco by reducing its pervasive presence in retail locations

Sacramento – The tobacco industry’s heavy marketing of its products in stores frequented by minors would end under a bill by State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) that limits sales to only tobacco stores, where minors are prohibited unless accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.  SB 1400 passed the Senate Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee today and heads to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Sacramento – State Senator Bob Wieckowski’s (D-Fremont) bill to establish a competitive grant program to convert biosolids to clean energy passed with strong bipartisan support in the Senate Environmental Quality Committee today.

“SB 1213 will provide crucial start-up funding to help wastewater treatment agencies throughout California invest in this cutting-edge approach to reduce landfill waste by converting biosolids to clean energy,” said Wieckowski, chair of the Environmental Quality Committee.
