As we enter the holiday season, California's economy remains strong with forecasts projecting more growth for the Golden State. We have the fifth-largest economy in the world and a booming clean energy economy. We will start 2020 in good fiscal shape.
One vital element of our overall economic health is the critical role played by small businesses. Though often overlooked compared to large corporations and national chains, small businesses make up more than 90 percent of California's private sector employers. They provide workers entry into the workplace and opportunities to gain and expand job skills. These businesses often give back to our communities in a number of ways, such as partnering with local schools and non-profit organizations, and donating products and services to local residents in need.
Operating a small business is never easy. But we all benefit from having vibrant, passionate small business owners in our community who hire our neighbors, provide great services, and contribute to a strong, local economy. This holiday season, please remember to stop by a local small business as you search for the right gifts for loved ones. Our community will be stronger for it.
