The California Legislature today approved an immediate relief and stimulus package for families and businesses hit hardest by the COVID-19 recession.
The package offers $7.6 billion in assistance in the form of fee relief, stimulus payments, financial assistance, child care subsidies, and student aid for families and businesses who have faced devastating economic hardship because of COVID-19.

In an effort to disenfranchise historically underrepresented communities, federal officials have moved up the last day of the Census count to September 30 (previously October 31)! That is a full month less to have our communities counted.
The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) issued a statewide Flex Alert that calls for voluntary electricity conservation from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. A Flex Alert is issued by the CAISO when the electricity grid is under stress because of generation or transmission outages, or from persistent hot temperatures.

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Bob Wieckowski’s (D-Fremont) bill to protect Golden State ScholarShare 529 savings from creditors in bankruptcy cases was approved with bipartisan support today by the state Assembly Judiciary Committee. SB 898 now goes to the Assembly floor.
California is in a housing crisis. This housing burden is one of the most significant drivers of institutional and generational poverty cycles. This law cuts exorbitant impact fees and reduces remaining barriers in order to encourage the safe, legal construction of more affordable ADUs.

I am proud to partner with Assemblymember Bill Quirk, the Alameda County Small Business Development Center, and the Chambers of Commerce of Hayward, Union City, and Castro Valley/Eden Area for a Yelp Workshop. The purpose of this workshop is for small businesses and members of the public to learn ways to best utilize Yelp in order to reach out to their community. Members of my district staff will be on hand to answer constituent questions and listen to concerns you may have.
April 22 marks the 49th Anniversary of Earth Day. U.S. Sen. Gaylord Nelson proposed the day to raise the environmental consciousness of our nation. He wanted Earth Day to "shake the political establishment out of its lethargy and, finally, force this issue permanently into the political arena."
