SACRAMENTO – Parvin Ahmadi, superintendent of the Castro Valley Unified School District (CVUSD), is the 2019 Woman of the Year for Senate District 10, Senator Bob Wieckowski announced today.  Ahmadi and other Women of the Year honorees were recognized during a ceremony on the Senate floor.

“Superintendent Ahmadi is a statewide educational leader who has dedicated her professional career to educating all students and enhancing their learning opportunities so they can achieve their goals,” Senator Wieckowski said. “For over 30 years, she has worked in several positions in our educational system, including as a teacher, site administrator, assistant superintendent and now as a superintendent who also teaches aspiring superintendents. Her commitment to public education, students of all ages and social justice is recognized throughout our community.”

Ahmadi has been superintendent of CVUSD since 2015. She started her career as a teacher in San Jose and taught there for 10 years before moving to the Fremont Unified School District. She worked there for 13 years as a teacher and a site administrator, before becoming an assistant superintendent. She then became the superintendent of the Pleasanton Unified School District for five years.

In 2017, Ahmadi was appointed to the Assembly Blue Ribbon Commission on Early Childhood Education and is currently working with other advocates to develop recommendations to improve support services for children up to five years old in California. She also serves on the board of the Association of California School Administrators.

In the community, Superintendent Ahmadi is active in a number of organizations, such as the Eden Area Chamber of Commerce, the American Association of University Women, the League of Women Voters of the Eden Area and Castro Valley Rotary.  Last year, she received an Alameda County Excellence in Human Relations Award.

Ahmadi founded the Castro Valley Community Alliance in 2016, a collaborative group of community and educational leaders, students and families advocating for compassion, understanding and acceptance.

Sen. Wieckowski represents the 10th District, which includes southern Alameda County and parts of Santa Clara County.
