February 23, 2016

Dear Friend,

The 10th Senate District is one of the most diverse districts in the state of California, and we have all greatly benefited from the positive impact African Americans have had in our communities.

In order to honor individuals who continue to make a positive impact, I am hosting my 5th Annual African-American Heritage Leadership Awards on Thursday, February 25th at Newark City Hall at 37101 Newark Blvd in Newark. The ceremony will be from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

We will be honoring prominent African-American leaders from our community. The honorees include:

  • Dr. Barbara Hall, Professor at California State University- East Bay
  • Milan Balinton, Executive Director of African-American Community Service Agency
  • Kenneth Smith, Owner of Ken Smith Realty

The event is free, but space is limited. Please RSVP to my office at (510) 794-3900 or e-mail

I hope you can join me for this wonderful event on February 25th. It is an honor and a privilege to serve you in the California State Senate.
