Sen. Wieckowski to attend MLK celebration at Chabot College

Hayward – State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) will attend the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration at Chabot College’s Reed L. Buffington Visual and Performing Arts Center, 25555 Hesperian Blvd., on Monday, Jan. 19 at 4:30 p.m.

“Dr. King’s drive for freedom and equality through non-violent activism continues to inspire people around the world,” Wieckowski said.  “I encourage everyone to see a local event in remembrance of his words and vision for a more just and peaceful world.”

The Chabot celebration, produced by the Hayward Unified School District, the City of Hayward, Chabot College and the Hayward South-Alameda County NAACP, will include a keynote speech by Dr. Clayborne Carson, the director of Stanford University’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute.

There will also be performances by Mt. Eden High School’s choir and jazz band, California State University, East Bay’s Iota Phi Theta fraternity step team and the 2014 Made in Hayward Step Off winners from Southgate Elementary School, Ochoa Middle School and Hayward High School.

The California State Senate celebrated Dr. King’s legacy with a ceremony on the Senate floor during today’s session. 

Senator Wieckowski represents the 10th Senate District, which includes southern Alameda County and parts of Santa Clara County.
