Sacramento – State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) issued the following statement on the Legislature’s approval of the 2016-2017 California state budget.

“This budget reflects the priorities and values of Californians by increasing investments in K-12 education, offering increased access to our higher education system, addressing factors that trap low-income households in poverty, all while building up our Rainy Day fund and paying down state debts.

Sacramento ­– State Senator Bob Wieckowski’s (D - Fremont) bill to eliminate unnecessary restrictions and unfair fees on building accessory dwelling units in California, passed out of the Assembly Housing & Community Development Committee this morning with bipartisan support.  The bill, which has strong support from affordable housing advocates, businesses and environmental organizations, now heads to the Assembly Local Government Committee.

SB 1263 improves oversight to ensure smaller agencies can provide safe, clean drinking water to all customers, including schools

Sacramento – A bill by Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) to better ensure that small, public water agencies are able to provide long-term delivery of safe, clean drinking water passed the state Assembly’s Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials Committee today.  SB 1263 will next be heard in the Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee on June 28.

Sacramento – State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont), a leading advocate for increasing legal aid funding in California, today applauded the Legislative Budget Conference Committee’s decision to make a one-time $5 million funding boost to the state’s Equal Access Fund, a fund used to provide legal services to some of the state’s neediest residents.

Sacramento – The Assembly Judiciary Committee approved a bill today by Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) to give county counsels increased authority to fight misleading or false advertising in California.  SB 1130, which has already passed the Senate, now heads to the Assembly floor.

Sacramento – The California State Assembly this Thursday will consider a bill on the floor to modernize the state’s outdated bankruptcy laws to provide a fresh start for families in need and to better protect consumers – especially seniors, the blind and the disabled – from having their home forcibly sold to pay off an unsecured debt.  The bill, SB 308, is strongly supported by senior groups, labor, legal rights advocates, public interest organizations, and state elected officials, including Attorney General Kamala Harris, State Treasurer John Chiang and Board of Equalization member Fiona M
