(www.porifera.com) as the Small Business of the Year in the Tenth Senate District.  The company was honored yesterday, along with several others from throughout California, during a celebration of small businesses in Sacramento. 

Excise tax on excessive consumption to fund local and statewide water conservation efforts

Sacramento - With the impact of California’s historic drought reaching record proportions, Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) has introduced a bill to allow local water authorities to levy an excise tax on excessive water users to fund critical water conservation measures. The bill, SB 789, would allow local water agencies to impose the tax at a rate not to exceed 300% of the purchase price of the water. Wieckowski chairs the Senate Committee on Environmental Quality.

Union City – Senator Bob Wieckowski’s (D-Fremont) 5th – Annual Asian-Pacific Islander American Leadership Awards Ceremony will focus on local leaders and an organization making a positive impact in the district.  This year’s ceremony will take place at 12 p.m., Friday, June 12 at the Union City Hall Council Chambers located at 34009 Alvarado-Niles Road in Union City.

State Senator Wieckowski will address special ceremony to welcome and thank the new enlistees to military service.

Sacramento – State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) will offer brief remarks at a special ceremony this Saturday, June 6, at 1:30p.m., at Hayward Veterans Memorial Building – 22737 Main Street in Hayward. 

“We salute the brave men and women who have shown their ultimate commitment to their country by enlisting in the United States Armed Forces. As a Senator, I have the privilege to serve the public.  It is critical that we recognize the dedication of our troops and veterans and collectively thank them for standing up and serving our nation,” Wieckowski said.

Oakland – State Senator Bob Wieckowski’s (D-Fremont) Senate Environmental Quality Committee held its second informational hearing of the year on how state and local governments and regional agencies can improve coordination of California’s climate change adaptation efforts.  Today’s meeting, held in Oakland, focused on climate impacts and adaptation efforts in the Bay Area.  

Economic Equity and Financial Stability Initiative helps minimum-wage workers and others mired in debt to keep more of their paychecks and personal assets

Sacramento - With income inequality at high levels in the state, the California State Senate today approved a package of bills by Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) to assist minimum-wage workers whose paychecks are being garnished and to modernize outdated bankruptcy laws to enable families to protect more assets and restore financial stability in their lives.  Another Wieckowski bill, also approved by the Senate, makes sure people who were improperly notified by debt buyers have their cases tried on the merits.

Sacramento – A bill by state Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) to establish a Climate Action Team as the coordinating body for California’s climate policy to ensure a comprehensive approach to the state’s overall climate strategy passed 6 to 0 in the Senate Environmental Committee tonight.

Fremont – The California Energy Commission awarded approximately $7.3 million in grants to companies in Senator Bob Wieckowski’s 10th Senate District to modify a manufacturing facility in Milpitas, design and build microgrids at three Fremont fire stations and to test and demonstrate a solar hybrid system with advanced storage to produce on-demand solar electricity.
